OSLO, NORWAY: During his recent visit to Oslo, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), met with the Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Jan Egeland.
During their meeting, Dr. Al Rabeeah gave the Secretary General an overview of KSrelief’s humanitarian work in 38 countries around the world, explaining that the center was created according to directives from the Kingdom’s leadership. KSrelief, he informed Mr. Egeland, has assisted refugees worldwide, in some cases sending direct aid, and in others, working with international humanitarian partners to alleviate the suffering of those in need. The Supervisor General also told Mr. Egeland that the Kingdom, in addition to contributing to relief efforts outside the country, has also welcomed inside its borders some 561,911 Yemenis, 262,573 Syrians and 249,000 Rohingya who were all forced to leave their countries due to ongoing conflicts.
KSrelief was the first international organization to visit the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh to assess the situation and address the needs of the refugees; the camps house more than 500,000 refugees from Myanmar.
The Secretary General recognized the unique humanitarian work carried out by the center worldwide, and the importance of continuing to get aid into Yemen.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed opportunities for future cooperation and partnership between KSrelief and NGOs in Norway (particularly the NRC) to provide humanitarian assistance to even more people in need around the world.
