After years of suffering, a new beginning

Radhya Ba Adeel is a 45-year-old woman from the Tarim district of the  Hadramawt governorate. She was born with congenital limb deficiency and other deformities, and these conditions prevented her from completing her education and living a normal life. Her plight also affected her marriage, which ended in divorce.

Radhya sought treatment in Sana’a, Aden and Mukalla, but nothing she found improved her situation. An added health complication was that she had only one kidney, having donated the other to save the life of her brother.

Eventually, Radhya learned about the Artificial Limbs Center in Seiyun, which is funded by KSrelief. She recounts her experience at the center: "The staff gave us such a warm reception when we arrived at the center, and over the next three days, I was impressed by the speed, accuracy, quality and personal attention exhibited by the staff.”

"I felt amazing when I held onto Afaf’s hands – she was my caseworker at the center – as she taught me to take one step after another with my new prosthesis. Soon, I was able to let go of her hands and walk on my own! I thank God for this blessing!"

Radhya now earns an income at homedoing tailoring work, and her prosthesis enables her to go out and buy whatever she needs.
